the end of a decade
The tenth year since the millennium was indeed the best year of my life to date. I suppose the notion was cultivated from the desire to never lose the sense of awe and always having gratitude - to God for His provision (financially, socially, spiritually, academically) and to bring Him glory through it all.
Indifference hampers conviction and breeds cynicsm.
2010 HIGHLIGHTS
1. Trip to Krabi & Phuket with my sisters and childhood friend. Next destination: Bangkok, Vietnam, Indonesia or Phillippines. I want to travel South East Asia!
2. The Pursuit of Mr. Cullum - 16 April, The National Theatre. After four years, we meet again.
To say he’s a great musician is an understatement. I love his raw tenacity for all things music, and his creativity that breaks barriers & pioneers a new frontier of Jazz. The best part? Him leaving the stage to perform just 3 rows in front of me. Oh yes, I love ‘em Brit boys.
3. The Italian Film Festival - best two foreign films of the year.
L-R: La prima cosa bella (The First Beautiful Thing), L’uomo che verra (The Man Who Will Come). The former tells the story of Bruno, a lecturer who takes the occasional drug, receiving urgent news that his mother is sick and is forced to go back to Livorno, reliving his bittersweet childhood.
The latter is based on the Marzabotto Massacre during the World War II. A touching yet gripping tale of the dark period seen through the eyes of an 8-year-old who has not spoken since her baby brother died in her arms.
4. I was given a wicked, foldable black bicycle by a friend. Good ol’ BMX days.
5. Joined the gym ;)
6. Got my 1st preference accepted for Research Project this year! Truly a miracle.
7. I passed my penultimate year of Uni - farewell, exams!
8. Bestie got top score in her thesis for her Honours year. Hurrah!
9. The sweetest November wedding. (photos by Jonathan Ong)
10. Blessed with a summer internship. (?!) With the amount of (professional) people telling me (their best advise) to give up, go back home and apply, well, I serve an awesome God - the God of the impossible.
2010 LOWLIGHTS
1. Attended a friend’s funeral.
2. Moved out of the cosiest apartment on the coolest street in Carlton and parted ways with the best housemates anyone would ask for (but God provided a better place, in fact, exactly the place I wanted & everything fell into place at the right time).
3. A close friend gone back home for good. We will (and shall) meet again.
4. My aunt lost her battle to cancer. Though her earthly body lost, her spirit is victorious as she resides in eternity with our Creator.
Despite the low-lights of 2010 they were nothing void of Faith stretched & sown only to reap a harvest of supernatural peace and joy that surpasses all understanding.
